Die California Walnut Commission CWC wurde 1987 gegründet und finanziert sich aus Abgaben von über 4.800 Walnussfarmern und fast 100 Händlern und Verarbeitern in Kalifornien. Die Kommission ist eine Einrichtung des Staates Kalifornien und arbeitet eng mit dem Sekretariat des California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) zusammen.
Die CWC beschäftigt sich in erster Linie mit Forschungen zu den gesundheitlichen Vorteilen von Walnüssen sowie mit der Entwicklung der Exportmärkte, von denen Deutschland der größte ist.
